Aims & Objectives

Wapping High School will comply with all the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and work to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity.

To ensure that no employee, job applicant, or student receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of discrimination of any kind.

To ensure that no member of the school community is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be relevant to their job or educational performance.

As defined in the Equality Act 2010, discrimination on grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnerships, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation will be addressed through the effective implementation of this policy.

Charging policy

By law schools can charge for: any materials, books, instruments, or equipment, where the child’s parent wishes him/her to own them, optional extras, music and vocal tuition, in limited circumstances, community facilities.

This policy applies to charges made to parents/students, for facilities used by private individuals and to third-party organisations that rent school premises.

Under the terms of the Education Act 1996, the Governing Body of Wapping High School must have a policy on charging students to participate in school activities.

By law, students may not be charged for taking part in activities that take place during the school day.

Parents may be asked for voluntary contributions but if they are unable to ‘contribute’, their child should not be prevented from participating should the activity go ahead. In any request for voluntary payments it must be clear from the terms in which it is made that:

There is no obligation to make any contribution and that pupils will not be treated differently according to whether or not their parents have contributed towards the planned activity

Complaints policy

Wapping High School recognises that at times things can and do go wrong. It is in everyone’s best interest to resolve concerns and complaints at the earliest possible stage.

This policy outlines the responsibilities of Wapping High School and its Governing Body (The Wapping & Shadwell Secondary Education Trust (WSSET)) in dealing with complaints.

However it is not intended to cover aspects for which there are specific statutory requirements.

In addition,Parents & Carers who are not satisfied with a special needs assessment may appeal to an SEN Tribunal

Concerns about admissions or exclusions have specific appeal rights to the governors and are detailed in the relevant policies

Allegations of child abuse will be dealt with through the Child Protection Policy

Complaints of financial improprieties or other criminal activities will be dealt with through the Whistleblowing Policy


You have a legal right to be informed about how our school uses any personal information that we hold about you. To comply with this, we provide a ‘privacy notice’ to you where we are processing your personal data. This privacy notice explains how we collect, store and use personal data about you. We, Wapping High School, are the ‘data controller’ for the purposes of data protection law. Our data protection officer is Matthew Dervin (see GDPR Policy below).
